News Release: Tabor Communications

SAN DIEGO, CA. – October 9, 2012 – Tabor Communications Inc., publisher of a complete advanced computing news and information portfolio that includes HPCwire, Datanami, Digital Manufacturing Report, and HPC in the Cloud announced today that CEO and founder Tom Tabor has been appointed to the Organization of American States, Advanced Research and Technology Collaboratory for the Americas (OAS-ARTCA) Steering Committee. The appointment is to take effect immediately.

OAS-ARTCA is a collaboration of high-end research, industry, government and nonprofit organizations across the Americas, that links research and technology activities in North, Central, and South America, as well as the Caribbean (collectively, the Americas) to address pressing problems that arise in the natural sciences, medicine, technology, and the human sciences. The organization encourages researchers, educators, and nonprofit leaders to work together on projects to improve the quality of life for citizens of the Western Hemisphere. The technical and administrative resources provided by the Office of Science, Technology and Innovation of the Organization of American States (OAS) support ARTCA’s efforts.

“Its truly an honor to serve on the steering committee of such a highly esteemed project as OAS-ARTCA”, said Tom Tabor, CEO and founder of Tabor Communications Inc. “Our history with the project actually dates back to 2005, when Tabor Communications hosted the first GRIDtoday VIP Summit on Grid Computing in Latin America. It was that ‘meeting of the minds’ by the regional leaders during the summit which inspired OAS-ARTCA’s inception. Since those early days, we have worked together in collaboration and witnessed the profound transitions taking place across the region as a result of the project’s influence. Together, we will continue to work towards achieving our vision to strengthen Inter-American collaboration, and to encourage the establishment of a scientific culture in the region. I’m extremely humbled and proud to be serving with such a dedicated and capable team.”

“We are very pleased to have Mr. Tom Tabor officially join us as a member of the OAS-ARTCA Steering Committee, which has enlisted a world-class leadership comprised of renown academics, legislators, and active civilians from various fields”, said Dr. Kevin Franklin, ARTCA co-founder and the Executive Director, Institute for Computing in Humanities, Arts and Social Science at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. “Tom’s highly respected reputation as a pioneer in the electronic publishing industry, combined with his innate ability to motivate, lead, and inspire diverse groups of people, was a major consideration in his selection for this role. It is my belief that his active involvement will have a powerful and positive influence on our ability to accomplish ARTCA’s goals in the years ahead.”
