PGI is recognized as an HPC industry compiler leader. PGI has been a key player in the definition and continuing evolution of the HPF standard. HPF, as adapted and supported by PGI, is the ideal platform for creation of Fortran applications that are readily portable across all forms parallel architectures. PGI has OEM and/or reseller agreements with Cray, Hewlett-Packard, and a number of other HPC system vendors who offer PGHPF directly to their customers.
In the Intel processor-based systems market, PGI continues the successful product development and marketing efforts with which the company was launched in 1989. PGI introduced highly successful Intel i860 compilers in 1990, and has since added SPARC and Intel Architecture 32-bit (IA-32, i.e. Pentium, Pentium Pro, and Pentium II) compilers to its product line. PGI's IA-32 compilers are used by Intel and the Department of Energy (DOE) on ASCI Red, a system at Sandia Nationall Laboratories consisting of over 9,000 Pentium Pro processors -- currently the world's fastest computer. PGI began development on a line of IA-64 (Merced) compilers and tools in the Spring of 1998. These compilers will debut with initial shipments of IA-64 processor-based systems.
The senior technical staff also includes Duane Dillerud and Dr. Michael Wolfe. Mr. Dillerud is a senior engineer and operating system architect with more than 20 years of experience in software development at Intel, Floating Point Systems and Cray Research Inc. Mr. Dillerud is considered a leading expert on parallel operating systems for high performance computers. Dr. Wolfe joined PGI after eight years as an associate professor of computer science and engineering at the Oregon Graduate Institute of Science and Technology. Dr. Wolfe is widely known and respected in the parallel computing research community and has over 50 publications in that field. His most recent work, High Performance Compilers for Parallel Computing, provides a clear and comprehensive understanding of modern analysis and optimization techniques used in compilers for parallel systems.
