Daresbury LaboratoryGroup Leader, Advanced Research Computing Daresbury Laboratory, CheshireThe Computational Science and Engineering Department (CSED) provides research to experimental, theoretical and computational scientists and engineers in the UK and overseas. The major activities within CSED include the development, maintenance and support of leading edge simulation codes, optimisation of code efficiency on the highest performance systems, evaluation and implementation of new hardware and software technologies, and operation of high-performance and distributed computing facilities. A vacancy exists for a Group Leader to drive forward technical developments and manage the delivery of high-performance computing support to applications areas which include: atomic and molecular physics, computational chemistry, molecular, materials and band theory, engineering and environmental simulation. The successful candidate will be expected to have a proven track record of high quality research in advanced research computing and to have made a substantial contribution to computational science and engineering applications. Candidates should be active, up-to date researchers with the personality and stature to command the respect of senior academics, funding agency staff and industrialists. Candidates should have a PhD. A variety of technical skills are needed for this work, including familiarity with, and some level of expertise in, performance optimisation and programming languages such as Fortran 90, C and C++. Starting salary is up to £39,370 on a salary scale from £31,500 to £43,310. Starting salary is based on qualifications and experience.
