The central mission of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) Center for Advanced Computing Research (CACR) is to facilitate research breakthroughs in computational science and engineering by ensuring that Caltech researchers have access to state of the art expertise and capabilities. CACR provides a research environment that cultivates multidisciplinary collaborations, harnesses new technologies to create innovative large-scale computing environments, enables multidisciplinary research, and fosters an applications-driven approach to computational science and engineering research.

CACR seeks an Executive Director who will be responsible for operations and execution of the CACR research mission. In particular, the Executive Director fosters partnerships with Caltech research groups, as well with research groups at other institutions where such external collaborations serve the CACR mission. The candidate must be able to develop and implement an organizational vision that integrates the goals of Caltech research activities with CACR capabilities. This includes the knowledge and ability to plan, prioritize, and coordinate diverse research activities in computational science and engineering, and the ability to utilize human and financial resources to accomplish CACR.s mission. The CACR Executive Director reports directly to the CACR Director, who is a Caltech faculty member.

CACR (http://www.cacr.caltech.edu/) is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in the fields of high-performance computing, communication, and data engineering. A Ph.D. or equivalent professional experience in science or engineering (applied mathematics, physics, astronomy, chemistry, biology, or related fields), emphasizing high-performance computing, data-intensive computing, Grid computing, computer science, databases, or related technology. Candidates with interdisciplinary or crossover qualifications are especially encouraged. Research contributions and evidence of scholarship focusing on computational science and engineering, demonstrated through refereed publications, conference proceedings and/or recognized innovative leadership in research administration, and knowledge of current capabilities and initiatives focused on computer science and engineering are essential. Individuals with a broad understanding of universities and other institutions where multi-disciplinary research and education in science and engineering is conducted are encouraged to apply.
