Center for Advanced Computing Research
Executive Director
California Institute of Technology (CALTECH)
Pasadena, California
Executive Director
The central mission of the California Institute of
Technology (Caltech) Center for Advanced Computing Research (CACR) is to
facilitate research breakthroughs in computational science and engineering
by ensuring that Caltech researchers have access to state of the art
expertise and capabilities. CACR provides a research environment that
cultivates multidisciplinary collaborations, harnesses new technologies to
create innovative large-scale computing environments, enables
multidisciplinary research, and fosters an applications-driven approach to
computational science and engineering research.
CACR seeks an Executive Director who will be responsible for operations
and execution of the CACR research mission. In particular, the Executive
Director fosters partnerships with Caltech research groups, as well with
research groups at other institutions where such external collaborations
serve the CACR mission. The candidate must be able to develop and
implement an organizational vision that integrates the goals of Caltech
research activities with CACR capabilities. This includes the knowledge
and ability to plan, prioritize, and coordinate diverse research
activities in computational science and engineering, and the ability to
utilize human and financial resources to accomplish CACR.s mission. The
CACR Executive Director reports directly to the CACR Director, who is a
Caltech faculty member.
CACR (http://www.cacr.caltech.edu/) is dedicated to the pursuit of
excellence in the fields of high-performance computing, communication, and
data engineering. A Ph.D. or equivalent professional experience in
science or engineering (applied mathematics, physics, astronomy,
chemistry, biology, or related fields), emphasizing high-performance
computing, data-intensive computing, Grid computing, computer science,
databases, or related technology. Candidates with interdisciplinary or
crossover qualifications are especially encouraged. Research contributions
and evidence of scholarship focusing on computational science and
engineering, demonstrated through refereed publications, conference
proceedings and/or recognized innovative leadership in research
administration, and knowledge of current capabilities and initiatives
focused on computer science and engineering are essential. Individuals
with a broad understanding of universities and other institutions where
multi-disciplinary research and education in science and engineering is
conducted are encouraged to apply. Applicants should send their
curriculum vitae, basis of interest in the position, and the names and
addresses of three references by September 30, 2003, to the following
