The Center for Advanced Computing Research (CACR) at the California Institute of TechnologyManager, Computing ResourcesThe Center for Advanced Computing Research (CACR) at the California Institute of Technology is seeking a Manager, Computing Resources. Reporting to the Director, the Manager, Computing Resources will oversee operational aspects of a forward-looking facility that includes high-performance computational, storage, networking, and visualization resources and supports large-scale computational science and engineering research projects at Caltech and across the Nation. This includes: 1) supervise the staff that provides system support and user services for this facility and selected facilities of major Caltech collaborators; 2) formulate and implement operating policies for current and future computing resources; 3) represent CACR in collaborative use of computing resources; 4) interface with hardware and software vendors, including acting as technical and managerial point of contact for evaluation and development projects; and 5) participate in the development of plans for the evolution of CACRs computing resources. CACR installs and exploits successive generations of high-performance parallel computers, networks, data storage, and visualization systems. A major new initiative for CACR is participation in the TeraGrid. CACR will focus on providing online access to very large scientific data collections and will facilitate access to those data by connecting data-intensive applications to components of the TeraGrid. We are seeking someone who has substantial experience in managing advanced technical computing facilities and can provide leadership in identifying potential problems and prioritizing activities for their resolution. Qualifications include: understanding of system, user, and application issues for large-scale scientific computing environments; interest and ability to interact with multi-disciplinary research teams; and excellent management and organizational skills, including strong project management skills. Requires a Masters or Ph.D. in a technical field (computer science, mathematics, physical science, or engineering) and a minimum of four years experience, including demonstrated leadership experience.
