The following positions are located in Washington, DC at the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA)/Department of Energy (DOE), Defense Programs, Assistant Deputy Administrator for Research, Development and Simulation.

Computer Scientist, EJ-1550 (Pay Band V) - ETR-00-EXC-06 Integrated Computer Systems Division, Office of Advanced Simulation and Computing

This position will be the technical lead to the Director of the Integrated Computer Systems Division. This Division is responsible for developing a state of the art platform strategy and systems architecture supporting the critical requirements of DOE's Accelerated Strategic Computing Initiative. The incumbent of this position also will be responsible for providing programmatic oversight and technical support for the development and installation in the National Laboratories of high end computers with their attendant software, networking, and peripheral support requirements. The incumbent will be engaged in a broad spectrum of program issues and projects including providing technical oversight for procurement activities delegated to the laboratories and providing oversight on laboratory staff evaluation of vendor proposals from both a technical and programmatic standpoint. Masters Degree or higher preferred.

Computer Engineer, EJ-854 (Pay Band V) - ETR-00-EXC-020 Integrated Computer Systems Division, Office of Advanced Simulation & Computing

The Integrated Computer Systems Division provides programmatic oversight and technical support for the development and installation in the National Laboratories of super or high end computers with their attendant software, networking, and peripheral support requirements. The incumbent of this position is responsible for program oversight of research activities related to the development of high capability computer platforms and their attendant hardware and infrastructure. The incumbent is also engaged in a broad spectrum of program issues and projects including evaluating the performance characteristics of hardware architectures, network configurations and signal/data switching methods intended for newly designed or proposed massively parallel computer architectures; designing storage and processing protocols for data manipulation and analysis; enhancing broadband carrier capabilities for distance computing; providing technical oversight for procurement activities delegated to the laboratories; developing long and short term budget proposals based on laboratory needs as coordinated with program objectives; providing oversight on laboratory staff evaluation of vendor proposals; and performing other programmatic and technical work. Advanced degree preferred.

Computer Engineer, EJ-0854 (Pay Band V) - ETR-00-EXC-017 Defense Applications and Modeling Division, Office of Advanced Simulation & Computing

In support of computer simulation efforts, this position located in the Defense Applications and Modeling Division, is responsible for program management of National Laboratory and Departmental initiatives with a combined budget of over $230 million. This includes direction of the Verification and Validation Program, specifically to establish appropriate software engineering practices at the National Laboratories and to coordinate R&D efforts in support of U.S. and Departmental policy in regards to nuclear weapons safety and reliability. This work supports the Accelerated Strategic Computing Initiative which develops application codes, code verification technologies, computing platforms, algorithms and other tools for integration into stockpile computational activities. If selected for this position, you will be responsible for project management, technical analysis and recommendation, development of strategic plans, oversight of studies, long term programming and resource planning as well as issue briefings to senior level Departmental managers as well as Department of Defense, other Government agencies, and staff of Congressional and appropriation committees.

Physicist, EJ-1310 (Pay Band V) - ETR-00-EXC-022 Defense Applications and Modeling Division

The ASCI program is looking for a senior Physicist. In support of computer simulation efforts, this position located in the Defense Applications and Modeling Division, is responsible for program management and direction of the Physics and Materials Model Development Program. Specific responsibilities include directing and coordinating work performed by DOE laboratories that is concerned with the development of new and improved physics and materials methods and procedures supporting the development of advanced applications, including the establishment of appropriate physics practices by the National Laboratories participating in the ASCI program. If selected, you will be responsible for program management, technical analysis and recommendation, development of strategic plans, oversight studies, long term programming and resource planning, as well as issue briefings to senior level Departmental managers as well as Department of Defense, other Government agencies, and staff of Congressional and appropriation committees. Masters or higher degree preferred.
