HEC RESPONDS TO US-HPC FUNDING, LINPACK, CLUSTER-RUT, ETC
- LETTER TO THE EDITOR
A reader writes to express his admiration for the High End Crusader's
arguments, recently presented in HPCwire. The reader also expands on
many of HEC's ideas and urges HEC to write again. The High-End Crusader
then briefly comments on the letter.

SMALL TREE TAKES ON INDUSTRY WITH MAC CLUSTERS
- by Tim Curns, Editor
HPCwire's Tim Curns recently spoke with the president of Small Tree
Communications, Corky Seeber, about the company's recent advancements
in the use of Mac clustering, a small but growing space in HPC.
-
10GbE: ENABLING HIGH-PERFORMANCE STORAGE, NETWORKING
- 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) is already being applied as a high-
performance network backbone in many applications such as animated film
production, scientific modeling, and large database mining and storage
backup. Because it is standards based, 10GbE also promises to be a
major contender as a cost-effective replacement for many proprietary
interconnect fabrics in server area and storage area networks.
-
ENGINEERS JOIN CONSORTIUM TO ADVANCE 'INVISIBLE' COMPUTING
- Computer scientists and electrical engineers from the University of
California, San Diego (UCSD) have joined a consortium of mostly
European scientists setting out to network together the billions of
electronic devices in everyday use.

Cluster Computing:
-
TOPSPIN, HP EXPAND INFINIBAND AGREEMENT FOR HPC, CLUSTERS
- Topspin Communications announced it has expanded its relationship with
HP to further integrate Topspin InfiniBand technology into industry-
standard HP servers for high performance commercial computing and
database clustering markets.
