The House Appropriations Committee has expressed its disappointment with the High-End Computing Revitalization Task Force's failure to acquire increased funds for scientific computing in 2005.

A NEW TWIST ON FIBER OPTICS
By twisting fiber optic strands into helical shapes, researchers have created unique structures that can precisely filter, polarize or scatter light. Compatible with standard fiber optic lines, these hair- like structures may replace bulky components in sensors, gyroscopes and other devices.

Leading Norwegian oil company, Statoil, has selected Dell and Scali to deliver a standards-based, high-performance computing cluster (HPCC) based on Intel architecture to process seismic data in the company's search for new petroleum resources.

HP, SIMDESK TO HELP INDIANA EMBRACE TECH INCLUSION PROGRAM
HP and SimDesk Technologies announced an alliance agreement to aid the State of Indiana in its statewide digital inclusion program. Under terms of the agreement, HP NonStop servers will be used as the server- computing platform for SimDesk applications.
