WATANABE DISCUSSES NEC'S POSITION IN HPC INDUSTRY

DIGITAL PRESERVATION PROGRAM LAUNCHES GRANTS INITIATIVE
- The National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation
Program of the Library of Congress (NDIIPP) is partnering with the NSF
to establish the first research grants program to specifically address
digital preservation.

SCIENTISTS DEMONSTRATE QUANTUM TELEPORTATION WITH ATOMS
- Researchers at the University of Innsbruck in Austria, in collaboration
with a scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory, announced the first
demonstration of the teleportation of a quantum state from one trapped
atom to another located 8 microns away.

PUMPING ENERGY TO NANOCRYSTALS FROM A QUANTUM WELL
- University of California scientists working at Los Alamos National
Laboratory with a colleague from Sandia National Laboratories have
developed a new method for exciting light emission from nanocrystal
quantum dots.

TACC UPGRADES TERASCALE MACHINE, LONESTAR
- Lonestar, the Cray/Dell Linux cluster supercomputer at the Texas
Advanced Computing Center (TACC) at UT Austin, has been upgraded with
128 new, more powerful nodes, for a total of 428 nodes (856
processors), 892 GB of aggregate memory, and 43.6 TB of disk.

CTC CLUSTERS ASSIST WORLD LEADER IN DIGITAL PRINTING
- Research associates at the Cornell Theory Center (CTC) used the
Center's Windows-based HPC clusters to generate digital printing
simulations to illustrate specific cause and effect relationships
important to the production of images.

TBWA/CHIAT/DAY DEPLOYS CANDERA SCE 510 CLUSTER FOR SAN MOVE
- Candera, Inc. announced that TBWA/Chiat/Day, a leading advertising
agency in the U.S., has deployed the Candera SCE 510 Cluster and low-
cost Serial ATA (SATA) RAID technology as a primary storage solution in
its Los Angeles office.
