SCIENTISTS POST A LOWER SPEED LIMIT FOR MAGNETIC SWITCHING
An experiment at the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory (SSRL) found that the ultimate speed of magnetic switching is at least 1,000 times slower than previously expected. The result has implications for future hard disk computer drive technologies.

Scientists have demonstrated, for the first time, that transistors made from single-walled carbon nanotubes can operate at extremely fast microwave frequencies, opening up the potential for better cell phones and much faster computers.

In this week's journal Science, researchers at the National Nuclear Security Administration's Sandia National Laboratories and the University of New Mexico describe a simple, commercially feasible method for arranging nanocrystals and preventing them from clumping.
