GETTING USED TO INFORMATION OVERLOAD ON THE WEB

Inderpal Bhandari is widely recognized as a leading researcher in data
mining and computer science. He is one of the few experts who have
successfully demonstrated how the emerging technology of data mining can be
translated into useful applications that offer a competitive advantage.
Recently, he formed Virtual Gold, Inc. to implement his technical vision.

From 1990-1997, Dr. Bhandari was a member of the research staff at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center, where he received several awards for his pioneering work in data mining and in software engineering. He was the creator and project director of IBM's Advanced Scout, a data mining program used extensively by coaches of the National Basketball Association to devise new strategies based on the automatic identification of hidden patterns in game data and video.
He was educated at Carnegie Mellon University (Ph.D, Electrical & Computer Engineering, 1990), the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (M.S.) and the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, India (B.Engg). He has published extensively in leading computer-related journals and conferences and has deployed several cutting-edge technological solutions to business problems.

The application is a data warehouse project used to achieve manufacturing schedule dependability and project management for building Titan rockets.
The COGNET Group has developed a Forte-based decision support framework for Detroit Edison, the nation's seventh largest electric utility company. The framework enables Detroit Edison's Enrico Fermi Unit 2 nuclear power plant to comply with a recent 1995 Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) requirement. The new framework, developed using Forte and Forte Conductor, will ultimately support as many as 800 users.

Unisys and Vento to Provide VentoMap
Business Intelligence Solution for
Leading Brazilian Telecom Provider
Unisys Corporation and Vento Software have announced the sale of the
VentoMap solution to the leading private telecommunications services
provider in Brazil, CTBC (Companhia de Telecomunicações do Brazil Central).
This is the first VentoMap sale in Brazil resulting from the alliance formed
between Unisys and Vento Software in October 1997.
Data Warehousing Becoming Top Priority
Companies are spending an average of $1.6 million on data warehousing
projects in 1998, according to the initial results of a new data
warehousing study by Cutter Consortium, of Arlington, Mass. But data
warehousing spending is expected to increase by 46 percent to $2.34 million
next year, the study of 100 companies found.
