Features - Storage Innovations:VOLTAIRE, PARTNERS DELIVER SCALABLE DATABASE PLATFORM SOLUTIONVoltaire announced the availability of its joint scalable database platform solution with Terrascale, Western Digital and Western Scientific at Oracle Open World. Now available and tuned for Oracle Database 10g, the joint solution, called DBScale, provides a scalable high performance data management infrastructure using high performance, low cost storage and InfiniBand interconnect. This is the industry's only solution to solve file I/O problems for database clusters using industry standard platforms and technologies such as InfiniBand, iSER (iSCSI RDMA), Serial ATA (SATA) and Linux. The solution, which was awarded "Best Database Solution" at the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo earlier this year, now provides leading performance and scalability for Oracle Database 10g. "The powerful combination of InfiniBand and WD Raptor enterprise-class 10,000 RPM SATA hard drives brings a dramatic improvement in price and performance to Oracle and other data intensive applications," said Hubbert Smith, director of enterprise marketing at WD. "The solution delivers affordable, scalable storage, capable of handling random I/O workloads inherent in database clusters. DBScale is an innovative and collaborative solution that delivers enterprise-level scalability, manageability and performance previously possible only with expensive proprietary platforms." "DBScale is a collaborative solution from four leaders in server, storage, networking and software that all specialize in delivering the greatest performance out of industry-standard elements," said Arun Jain, vice president of marketing at Voltaire. "Working with these partners and industry standards such as InfiniBand, iSCSI and SATA, we can now provide a solution for Oracle users that offers the simplicity of file-based storage, yet is much faster and higher performing than Fibre Channel-based SANs."
