Features - Storage Innovations:PROCOM DOUBLES CAPACITY OF NetFORCE 4000 SERIES NAS FILERSProcom Technology Inc announced that its high-end NetFORCE 4000 series NAS filers will now be available with 300GB disk drives that more than double their raw storage capacity to 67TB for Model NF4200c and 33TB for the NF4100. Existing customers can have their units field-upgraded with the new drives. The addition of 300GB drives improves storage density of the NetFORCE 4000 series to 1.46TB from 711GB per U (1.75 inches of rack space). The NF4200c and NF4100 respectively occupy 46 and 23 Us and support up to 224 and 112 drives. The 300GB disk drives, recently introduced on the market, are designed for full-duty-cycle applications, remaining highly reliable even when operating 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. The architecture of the sophisticated NetFORCE operating system enables the support of these higher capacities, while ensuring even higher scalability in the future. These higher-capacity offerings open new opportunities for Procom in areas where data-storage growth is burgeoning. "Many of our customers in government, telecommunications, medical imaging and other vertical markets have deployed 32TB configurations and now require a higher-density NAS solution," said Carlos Ortiz, Procom's product marketing manager. "By doubling the capacity of the NetFORCE 4000 architecture, we satisfy our customers' storage growth needs and, at the same time, help them to preserve precious IT real estate." The NetFORCE 4000 series combines optimized software, open architecture, and a modular design using hot-swappable components. Model NF4200c is a clustered failover configuration that eliminates single points of failure and facilitates non-stop performance. Standard features for the series include a 2-gigabit-per-second Fibre Channel back end that enhances performance. Procom's ProMirror software option lets enterprises replicate stored information at a remote site for disaster recovery, backup or other data management purposes. The NetFORCE operating system offers advanced reliability features, such as a journalized file system to ensure data integrity and checkpoints for rapid recovery of damaged or deleted files. Other functionalities include cross-platform heterogeneous file sharing, NDMP-compliant backup and SNMP monitoring. |
