Special Section: SNW, Fall 2004 - More News From SNW:Revivio, University Of New Mexico Align On Business StrategyAt Storage Networking World 2004, Revivio Inc announced that the University of New Mexico has aligned its business continuity strategy with Revivio's Continuous Protection System, the CPS 1200. Based upon Revivio's breakthrough implementation of Time Addressable Storage (TAS) technology, the CPS 1200 is the industry's first enterprise-class continuous protection appliance and is intended to help customers instantly restore enterprise applications and information in the event of a data loss, corruption or disaster. The CPS 1200 will form the foundation upon which the University of New Mexico (UNM) datacenter will support and service over 31,000 students that attend the main campus, branch campuses and education centers, as well as almost 20,000 employees statewide, including those of University Hospital. "Revivio's CDP technology was attractive to UNM as it gave us the ability to add time as a dimension of storage. For us, that means peace-of-mind because we know that if we have a data corruption or loss we can instantly recreate disks, or groups of disks, containing data from any point in time," said Chuck McQuade, storage specialist and member of the CIRT IT Architecture Team (ATeam) at the University of New Mexico. "We evaluated competing technologies, but found only Revivio could deliver true continuous protection, with absolutely no disruption to our existing infrastructure or processes. It is really a very simple technology -- we just set and forget -- we know we have total restoration capabilities at the touch of a button." CIRT provides the technology infrastructure and staff to support the University of New Mexico's mission. CIRT's responsibility is to provide reliable and continuous access to UNM applications and services from anywhere at anytime. The CPS 1200 appliance from Revivio will play a strategic role in helping UNM achieve this goal by providing continuous data protection (CDP) and rapid recovery for mission-critical applications. Most technical staff at UNM-CIRT are IT veterans and have been advocates of CDP from the beginning. "But it wasn't just the innovative technology from Revivio that attracted our attention," added McQuade. "It was the people behind the technology that made the difference and earned our commitment." "This announcement underscores Revivio's extended leadership and commitment to enterprise data protection," said Paul Lewis, CEO of Revivio. "It is the first continuous protection solution to offer the availability, distance replication, remote monitoring and serviceability, as well as the scalable performance and connectivity the world's most sophisticated datacenters demand." "We are proud to be able to announce UNM as the first CPS 1200 customer," continued Lewis. "They were meticulous in their review or our technology and that of our competitors -- they really did their homework -- and Revivio emerged the leader." |
