Wasabi Systems Simplifies NAS With Storage Builder 100n

Expanding its storage solution offerings to include a turnkey system for delivering Network Attached Storage (NAS) appliances, Wasabi Systems announced the launch of Wasabi Storage Builder 100n. Using off-the-shelf hardware components, Wasabi Storage Builder 100n significantly reduces the cost of producing NAS solutions by supplying all of the necessary software components –- including the NAS OS and the management interface -- in a bootable Compact Flash or Disk On Module (DOM). Simply plug it in, and it's ready to go. By avoiding costly in-house development efforts, OEMS speed time-to-market, ultimately achieving better operating margins.

Designed for scalability, Wasabi Storage Builder 100n allows OEMs to build anything from entry-level SOHO to high-end enterprise NAS devices that scale from the most cost effective to the most demanding applications.

Providing a highly-tuned implementation, Wasabi Storage Builder 100n is ideal for file sharing in multi-platform environments. NAS file servers improve productivity by providing support for file sharing across Windows, Linux, UNIX and MacOS platforms. Additional features and benefits include:

  • Graphical User Interface (GUI) branding.

  • Support for RAID 0,1, 10, 5, and 50.

  • Gigabit Ethernet Support.

  • Support of Active Directory Services (ADS) and Network Information Services (NIS).

  • Optimized drivers for SCSI, SATA, FC and IDE disk controllers.

  • Optimized TCP/IP stack and Ethernet drivers.

  • A fully protected, performance-optimized virtual memory system.

  • Advanced thread scheduler to maximize I/O concurrency.

  • TCP/IP optimizations such as zero-copy, checksum and segmentation offload.

"We're pleased to bring to market a NAS product to complement our Storage Builder 1500i for iSCSI appliances," said Frank G. Logan, III, Wasabi's president and CEO. "With our latest product, we've increased the benefits and flexibility that we offer to our OEMs, giving them the ability to use the same hardware platform to offer either NAS or iSCSI appliances."

OEMs are also excited about the industry-leading value of Wasabi 100n. "We've already embarked on a project to bring a multitude of storage solutions to one OEM possessing a very sophisticated system for one of its major customers," said Paul T. Snapp, Xtore Extreme Storage western regional manager, North America. "Wasabi presented us with a unique opportunity to marry iSCSI with NAS in its platforms in several form factors to fit this requirement as well as others anticipated by the OEM. We view these solutions as very important factors in Xtore's growth in this circumstance and others beyond. "
