LSI Logic Demos iSCSI RAID At SNW

LSI Logic Corp announced that the iMegaRAID SATA 16, a 16-port iSCSI RAID storage controller designed for external IP SAN environments, is being demonstrated this week at Storage Networking World along with processor and backup software components from Intel and Yosemite Technologies.

LSI Logic will demonstrate its iMegaRAID iSCSI storage controller, equipped with the Intel IOP321 I/O processor, as a near line storage solution. For this demonstration, LSI Logic has worked with Intel to showcase iSCSI storage flexibility and with Yosemite Technologies to promote end user tiered storage and the importance of a robust backup solution over iSCSI. The iSCSI technology storage solution shown in the LSI Logic booth showcases an innovative storage technology with focus on the SMB market that places high emphasis on a cost-effective, reliable, easy-to-use and flexible total storage solution.

"In the end user tiered storage model, it is important to be able to quickly back-up data while storing or retrieving data from the near line storage," said Kevin Reinis, CEO at Yosemite Technologies. "Our rapid backup and recovery software equips the LSI Logic iMegaRAID controller with a simple data protection solution."

The iMegaRAID storage controller offers high speed I/O performance and reliable data throughput by leveraging a stable and proven RAID firmware core that has been extended to an IP-SAN. Through support for 64-bit addressing, a robust RAID feature set, advanced fault tolerance, memory and caching policies, the iMegaRAID delivers aggregate bandwidth of 2GB in full duplex, while providing the fault tolerant capabilities and easy-to-use management utilities required in a SAN environment where performance, reliability and availability are essential.

"The addition of the iMegaRAID SATA 16 controller to our MegaRAID family answers the requirements of our customers seeking an intelligent iSCSI RAID solution to power their external IP SAN applications and upgrade their DAS implementations," said Phil Bullinger, vice president and general manager of the LSI Logic RAID Storage Adapters Division. "Working with industry innovators such as Intel and Yosemite Technologies to demonstrate this solution at SNW further provides added value to our solution and confirms our commitment to providing customers with a high-performing, smart storage technology."

"Intel recognizes the movement to IP-based technology in the industry based on the demand for high-performing, low-cost, long-distance storage solutions," said Michael Ludgate, director of marketing for Intel's Storage Components Division. "The Intel IOP321 I/O processor powers the iMegaRAID storage controller to provide cost-effective, high-performance IP-connectivity in an intelligent iSCSI array."
