EqualLogic ADDS WINDOWS AUTO-SNAPSHOT MGR TO PeerStorage ARRAY

EqualLogic Inc, a provider of iSCSI-based, self-managing networked storage solutions, announced the addition of automatic snapshot management for Windows Server 2003 for the PeerStorage Array 100E, the company's all-inclusive storage area network (SAN) solution. Auto-Snapshot Manager for Windows enhances backup and restore in Windows 2003 environments running business-critical applications such as Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Business Solutions Great Plains by automating snapshots -- a critical backup-up tool -- allowing enterprises to easily and automatically manage SANs.

EqualLogic's Auto-Snapshot Manager for Windows also works with third-party backup solutions from Computer Associates, CommVault Systems, EMC Legato, VERITAS Software Corp and other leading vendors. Other replication and snapshot management software is available to enterprises, but it often requires the introduction of costly additional software into their storage environments. EqualLogic's Auto-Snapshot Manager for Windows ships as a standard feature on the PeerStorage array, requiring no additional host license fee. The PeerStorage array's Auto-Snapshot Manager for Windows takes advantage of Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 to eliminate the extensive system configuration and scripting required to implement a snapshot routine.

Auto-Snapshot Manager for Windows works together with the PeerStorage array's snapshot feature and all third-party backup solutions to help automate, simplify and improve backup-and-restore and data-protection procedures. With Auto-Snapshot Manager for Windows, instant, point-in-time copies can be automatically created and stored for the rapid and reliable backup and protection of data. Data is preserved on a disk in a usable format for rapid recovery.

In addition to Auto-Snapshot Manager for Windows, the PeerStorage array now includes multipath input/output (MPIO) capability as a standard feature. MPIO is a feature for Microsoft Windows Server 2000 and 2003 that extends redundancy to the entire I/O pathway in a SAN, delivering fault tolerance, high availability and better performance. The PeerStorage array simplifies management of multiple paths by automatically monitoring and load balancing I/O across multiple host and storage connections -- online, continuously without disrupting servers.
