SYBASE OPENS BETA PROGRAM FOR NEXT-GEN ENTERPRISE-CLASS RDBMS

Sybase Inc, a provider of enterprise infrastructure and wireless software, announced the beta release of Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise 15.0, the company's enterprise-class relational database management system (RDBMS). Developers are invited to join the ASE 15.0 beta program to get ahead of the curve by evaluating and testing the new version's expanded data management capabilities, receive in-depth implementation advice and ensure that their valuable feedback is incorporated into the final feature set. All Tier One participants will receive a free copy of Rob Vershoor's The Complete Sybase ASE Quick Reference Guide. Additional product and beta registration information is available online at www.sybase.com/ase15.0beta.

"The Sybase ASE developer community -- numbering over 100,000 strong -- is an essential partner in our development process," said Raj Nathan, senior vice president of Information Technology and Solutions Group for Sybase Inc. "We are already seeing tremendous interest in the program from companies such as EZCorp, Mayo Clinic, Myriad Genetics, Meijer Retail and Grocery Supercenters and Utah Department of Human Services -- organizations that are attracted to ASE's reputation for enterprise-class power and low TCO."

"Sybase ASE 15.0 is in synch with the needs of today's enterprises, which must find solutions to affordably scale up and scale out to handle an exponential growth in data volume and complexity," said Robert Desautels, president of Harvard Research Group. "ASE 15.0's introduction of key scalability, application development and security enhancements build on its record of peak performance across platforms, particularly Linux."

New capabilities in ASE 15.0 will include:

  • Greater Scalability and Manageability -- Sybase ASE 15.0 includes semantic data partitioning and next generation query processing that will significantly reduce very large database (VLDB) space management and query complexities, resulting in increased scalability with storage products and next generation hardware.
  • Faster, Simpler Application Development -- Sybase ASE 15.0 has deep support for native XML handling, real-time messaging and native Web services capabilities for increased developer flexibility and productivity.
  • Increased Security -- Sybase ASE 15.0 delivers native data encryption at the storage level for maximum security to meet the security needs of businesses today.

"We've worked with several different databases, but prefer Sybase ASE because of its ease-of-use," said Hari Bellam, senior database administrator of Greyhound Lines Inc. "It is dramatically easier for us to develop systems using Sybase ASE, and with ASE 15.0, we are looking forward to taking advantage of the expanded data management capabilities and increased storage feature."
