INTRANSA INTRODUCES IP 3000 STORAGE SYSTEM

Intransa announced the broadening of its product line with the availability of the Intransa IP 3000 Storage System. The new IP storage area network (SAN) appliance, designed specifically for the mid-tier and small business markets (SMB), delivers the functionality and scalability of an enterprise-class SAN solution at dramatically reduced prices.

The company also announced today that Wipro Spectramind, India's leading IT systems and support provider and an established user of the Intransa IP 5000, has implemented the IP 3000 as its disk-to-disk backup solution. DST International, the leader in business solutions for the investment management industry, has selected Intransa to consolidate and manage its direct attached storage environment (DAS). In addition, Virginia Tech's IT security department values the cost effective storage solution from Intransa.

"Intransa is a new category of storage system that is challenging the traditional way of implementing SANs by combining ease of management, scalability and high end functionality on standards-based hardware over iSCSI networks," said Tony Asaro, senior analyst at ESG. "The IP 3000 offers an excellent solution to small and medium-sized business that have budget constraints and are not staffed to support complex SAN environments. ESG research shows that the SMB market is extremely interested in iSCSI SANs with 42 percent of customers surveyed planning to implement within the next 24 months."

The Intransa IP 3000 is a robust, easy-to-use storage management platform that provides flexible virtualization, mirroring, host access control and online capacity expansion. It guarantees data availability and accessibility by providing multiple physical mirrors with flexible mirror management. Virtual point-in-time copies (snapshots) allow backups, data mining, or application testing to be completed without impacting access to critical data resources. Intransa reduced the cost and complexity of the IP 3000 by using iSCSI and a standard Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) infrastructure, and incorporating commodity technologies such as Ethernet switches and Cat 5 cabling, which help simplify installation, management, and maintenance at a fraction of the cost of competitive solutions.

A powerful graphical user interface (GUI) simplifies system management. Included in the GUI are smart templates that enable users to rapidly create volumes even if they don't know the underlying data structures. Simplified capacity planning allows system storage to dynamically grow and be provisioned to hosts, without disrupting applications or users, and a command line interface enables users to create scripts for rapid, automated provisioning of storage.
