Features - Storage Innovations:SYBASE DYNAMIC ARCHIVE COMBATS RUNAWAY DATA GROWTHSybase Inc announced the availability of Sybase Dynamic Archive, an online database archiving solution. Developed in partnership with OuterBay Technologies, a leader in application data management (ADM) software, Sybase Dynamic Archive enables customers to automatically offload inactive transaction data from production databases, allowing them to reduce maintenance windows, lower storage costs and improve application performance while still maintaining easy online access to both production and archived data. Organizations managing exploding volumes of data, particularly those concerned with compliance mandates, now have a cost-effective solution to reliably store information online without negatively impacting the efficiency of their databases. Sybase Dynamic Archive will be generally available this month. "Stored enterprise data is growing at a rate of up to 125 percent a year, and a majority of this data remains inactive in production systems, where it cripples system performance," said Raj Nathan, senior vice president of the Information Technology Solutions Group at Sybase Inc. "To compound the problem, many enterprises are in the midst of compliance initiatives such as Sarbanes- Oxley, HIPAA or Basel II, which mandate the retention of more data for even longer periods of time. With Sybase Dynamic Archive, enterprise database management teams can meet these challenges head on by automatically storing the right transaction data in the right place, based on its business value." In addition to enabling compliance with regulatory requirements for long-term storage, Sybase Dynamic Archive:
"While evaluating Sybase Dynamic Archive, we've realized how it could help us complete maintenance in a more timely manner, and provide a completely new level of simplicity, operational clarity and cost savings on the data management and archiving front," said Doren Jacobs, vice president of T. Rowe Price Investment Technologies Inc. "We are by definition a data-intensive enterprise. The ability to intelligently and automatically assign data to either production databases or online archives based on its business value will allow us to realize important new savings in both time and money." "We are pleased to partner with Sybase in Dynamic Archive, a key component of their Unwired Enterprise initiative, helping customers to better manage their data and speed it to the point of greatest business impact," said Michael Howard, OuterBay chairman and CEO. "Sybase Dynamic Archive allows enterprise customers new levels of application responsiveness and cost savings, and is an important step for OuterBay in extending our own leadership as the standard in database information lifecycle management." |
