Mindspeed Launches Enterprise VoIP, Data Convergence Processor

Mindspeed Technologies Inc, a supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, announced the Comcerto Enterprise Voice and Data Convergence Processor family, offering a complete data networking and voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephony system-on-a-chip. The Comcerto Enterprise M828xx family combines VoIP processing, wide-area-network (WAN) routing and virtual private network (VPN) encryption to enable a new class of highly integrated, low-cost "office-in-a-box" equipment solutions for smalland medium-sized businesses.

The Comcerto Enterprise processors are the first devices to integrate the voice and data communications capabilities, security, and quality of service (QoS) of a WAN router and VoIP private branch exchange (PBX) with VPN encryption. It offers enterprise telephony and data equipment manufacturers the ability to design one system capable of simultaneously processing up to 32 channels of highly secure VoIP and routing data at up to 150 Kp per second.

"Mindspeed's Comcerto Enterprise Voice and Data Convergence processor uniquely combines the features of a complete data router with VPN security and high-quality voice processing," said Sanjay Iyer, senior analyst at the Linley Group, a networking-silicon technology analysis and strategic consulting firm. "These attributes will enable equipment manufacturers to deliver low-cost, combination PBX and router systems based on Mindspeed's integrated single-chip solution."

With an integrated encryption processor, the Comcerto Enterprise M828xx provides up to 60 Mb per second of throughput for highly secure virtual private networks. It offers a wide range of user interfaces including PCI and USB for directly connecting office equipment such as PC, printers and storage servers, as well as wireless peripherals. The Comcerto M828xx supports a wide range of voice codec standards and incorporates the latest version of Mindspeed's field-proven echo canceller.

The Comcerto Enterprise M828xx architecture is optimized for both VoIP and data routing applications with separate signal and packet-processors, and a programmable software suite. It integrates a VoIP subsystem with a high-performance routing and VPN engine. The flexibility and performance of Comcerto offers network infrastructure equipment manufacturers a significant time-to-market advantage by integrating security and QoS features in the device, with the ability to add additional features through software upgrades.

The Comcerto M828xx is fully hardware and software-compatible with Mindspeed's entire range of Comcerto Carrier and Silicon PBX Convergence Processors, and is optimized for a variety of equipment including voice gateways; IP private branch exchanges PBXs; enterprise-class WAN, VPN and VoIP routers; high-speed 802.11 a/b/g access points, and integrated access devices (IADs).
