CommVault SIMPLIFIES DATA MANAGEMENT FOR SMBs WITH HP

CommVault Systems announced simplified and cost-effective data management and protection solutions for small and medium business (SMB) customers of HP StorageWorks network-attached storage (NAS) systems running Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003.

As part of an agreement between CommVault and HP, the award-winning CommVault QiNetix software suite is available for HP StorageWorks NAS 1200s and 2000s devices and leverages Microsoft's new Windows Storage Server 2003 feature pack for management of Exchange storage.

"CommVault is proud to partner with HP to deliver our QiNetix solution for HP StorageWorks NAS devices," said Larry Cormier, vice president of marketing at CommVault Systems. "This is a great solution, one that our channel partners and sales force can leverage immediately. Aside from the performance from the HP NAS, we recognize that HP is uniquely positioned to assist customers in the management of Microsoft technology and Exchange due to the vast amount of expertise within HP for these environments."

The fully tested and qualified QiNetix software for the HP NAS provides a Windows-centric data backup, recovery and e-mail archiving platform that is uniquely designed to meet the specific needs of SMB customers. The solution helps SMB customers cost-effectively deal with reduced data backup timeframes and increasing storage management administration costs and complexity, while meeting growing business and regulatory compliance requirements for data retention.

The CommVault QiNetix software suite running on HP StorageWorks NAS devices includes the following key features:

  • Complete protection and management of Exchange and NAS data, including backup, restore (Database and Message Level), archiving and data migration to secondary storage devices.
  • Use of HP StorageWorks NAS devices as a backup and archive target to stage Exchange and other data.
  • Improved application server performance by using disk-to-disk backup with Microsoft applications (e.g.: Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server) directly on the HP NAS device.
  • Content-based indexing of Exchange data to assist in compliance and specific searching of Exchange e-mail text, e-mail attachments and Windows files.
  • Immediate ability to increase reliability and performance by staging data to the HP StorageWorks NAS product and then to tape (D2D2T) seamlessly via CommVault QiNetix, including support for HP StorageWorks Magneto Optical storage.

"HP is dedicated to working with leading software providers such as CommVault to deliver reliable, high-performance solutions to small- and medium-size business customers," said Harry Baeverstad, director of Network-Attached Storage, Technology Solutions Group at HP. "The combination of Windows-powered HP StorageWorks NAS devices with the CommVault QiNetix software suite offers SMB customers a total solution for Exchange data backup and recovery that is easy to implement and significantly drives down management costs and complexity."

"Microsoft is pleased to see CommVault partnering with HP. We believe the Windows Storage Server foundation with HP NAS and CommVault QiNetix will aid small- and medium-size businesses, enterprise IT departments and branch offices to do more with less through this combined offering. The seamless integration on Windows Storage Server 2003 and Exchange Server 2003, both part of the Windows Server System, will deliver easier management and lower cost of operation," said Yuval Neeman, corporate vice president of Storage and Platform Solutions at Microsoft Corp. "We're very confident this solution will provide immediate benefits to our customers since we've used the combined solution from HP and CommVault here at Microsoft in production for over a year."
