ENGENIO UNVEILS FIRST STORAGE PRODUCT UNDER NEW IDENTITY

Engenio Information Technologies Inc, formerly LSI Logic Storage Systems Inc, introduced a new entry-level, enterprise-class serial ATA (SATA) storage solution that utilizes the company's new 2822 storage controller and SANtricity Storage Manager software. Last year, Engenio was the first storage vendor to deliver SATA technology in an enterprise-class system.

The 2822 storage controller offers an affordable enterprise storage entry point without sacrificing scalability or high-end functionality. It integrates 2 Gb per second Fibre Channel connectivity, low-cost SATA disk drives and powerful storage management. This combination makes the 2822 the solution for entry- level to mid-range requirements that need lower cost storage, and the features offered in Fibre Channel-based storage systems.

"There is a growing need for lower-cost storage that maintains enterprise- class levels of availability," said Dave Reinsel, program director of storage research for IDC. "Flexible designs with upgrade potential, like Engenio's 2822 storage controller, are necessary in order to maximize the storage investments for the entry-level customer."

The 2822 storage system is ideally suited for the specific workload, capacity and cost requirements of secondary storage. Its ability to cost-effectively store large amounts of information online, such as reference data, fixed content, disaster recovery and backup, brings tremendous value to the data center. And the 2822 storage system enables data that would otherwise be archived on tape, to be cost-effectively brought online -- improving access rates, reliability and service levels.

Engenio continues to lead the enterprise SATA market with the debut of its 2822 system. The 2822 controller strengthens a portfolio of products that spans from the entry-level 2822 controller, to the mid-range 2882 controller, to the high-end 5884 controller. A 2822-based storage system combines SATA controllers, robust storage management software and 3.5TB of capacity in a single 3U enclosure. The 2822 can scale to 28TB and 112 SATA drives and provides the same robust functionality as Engenio's high-end 5884-based SATA storage systems.
