StorageTek TEAMS WITH VERITAS FOR ADVANCED DATA PROTECTION

In an ideal world, IT managers would meet their data protection requirements with an ultra-reliable, high performance data protection solution, combining the best that hardware and software have to offer. That ideal is now reality.

StorageTek (Storage Technology Corp), a data storage solutions expert, announced qualification of VERITAS NetBackup and Data Lifecycle Manager software with the StorageTek StreamLine SL8500 Modular Library System. These combinations offer customers world-class data protection and superior reliability and flexibility for their enterprise backup, recovery and archive operations.

"The SL8500's features are essential for any information lifecycle management (ILM) implementation that must be scalable, with information available on a continuous basis, and where data must be stored economically for long and short-term accessibility. Any ILM solution lacking these fundamentals doesn't meet customers' needs," said Jon Benson, StorageTek vice president and general manager of Automated Tape Solutions. "By working with VERITAS to qualify these advanced data protection solutions, we are providing our customers with a winning hardware and software platform to address their storage management challenges."

"The combination of our industry-leading VERITAS NetBackup software with StorageTek's SL8500 modular library offers customers enterprise-class data protection and tremendous backup and recovery agility," said Brenda Zawatski, vice president of product marketing for VERITAS Software. "When customers add VERITAS Data Lifecycle Manager to the VERITAS-StorageTek data protection solution, it will provide them a cost-effective approach to manage data from creation to archiving."

StorageTek's SL8500 modular library system will be the first offering in the company's next-generation StreamLine family of data protection and archiving solutions. Delivering true mixed-media support and high availability via its high-performance, redundant robotics design, the SL8500 library system provides an ideal solution for consolidating enterprise and midrange computing infrastructures and ensuring world-class data protection. The StorageTek focus on ILM can be seen in the new SL8500:

  • Any Cartridge Any Slot technology to accommodate mixed media and drives, allowing customers to buy the right drive(s) for their applications.
  • Flexible ability to scale performance by increasing the number of robots, or to scale capacity by adding slots, allowing the system to efficiently adapt to customers' needs.

VERITAS NetBackup software supports the SL8500's mixed media/drive capabilities enabling customers to match their unique tape storage needs to the most appropriate media/drives, spanning StorageTek's T-Series tape drives, LTO and SDLT. NetBackup also supports StorageTek's ACSLS Manager software for centralized tape library management in open systems environments.
