Top Of The News - Apps & Analytics:BakBone First In Japanese Linux Backup, Recovery MarketBakBone Software, a global provider of data protection software, continues to lead the Linux backup and recovery software market in Japan. According to a new independent report published by research organization Techno Systems Research Co Ltd, Japan's pre-eminent storage market research firm, BakBone led the market for Linux server backup products in 2003 with 79 percent market share. "BakBone's leadership within the Japanese Linux backup and recovery software market is a testament to the strength of our technology," said Howard Weiss, vice president of the Pacific Rim for BakBone Software. "We will continue to innovate and deliver easy-to-deploy, affordable data protection solutions for Linux that will help our customers better manage, access and protect their business-critical information." Building on its position as a leading provider of data backup and recovery solutions for Linux distributions, BakBone's NetVault has been recognized by the Techno Systems Research 2003 Marketing Analysis of the Storage Software Market report for its strength in VTL (virtual tape library) and D2D (disk-todisk). According to the report, the performance benefit associated with disk, coupled with falling prices, is making the option of implementing a disk-based backup strategy attractive to users. The report also illustrates BakBone's significant market leadership over competitors Veritas and Computer Associates, with a lead more than six times greater over its nearest competitor. BakBone's 2003 new Linux-based license sales in Japan increased by 45 percent over 2002, while the Japanese Linux backup and recovery software market grew at 26 percent. Enterprises are embracing Linux in Japan. Market research firm IDC predicts that Linux adoption will continue growing at a much faster pace than Windows and UNIX in the Japanese server market. According to IDC Enterprise Server Tracker, Linux server shipments will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 40 percent from 2002 to 2007. BakBone is uniquely positioned, offering the broadest Linux support in the storage management market and supporting more leading distributions than any other backup software vendor. |
