Despite the greater amount of memory they offer, it is often the case that free memory is not available just when it is urgently needed. ORGA has the answer. They have developed a completely new method called SIMagic that allows the SIM (or USIM) card memory to be freely configured by the end user. SIMagic is a Java applet on the SIM (or USIM) card that gives users a menudriven means of configuring the individual card's memory to meet their own needs. Customers define the number of phone numbers they need and SIMagic reconfigures the card, with the remaining memory space automatically reserved for SMS. It goes without saying that the program first checks whether data has already been stored and so prevents any data loss. In order to permit optimum use of valuable memory space, the card is defragmented before any reconfiguration to avoid wasting even one byte. The process can be performed any number of times, so customers are not tied to any specific settings. SIMagic is more than just an attractive feature for mobile users. It also offers special advantages for operators, since it can also be controlled from the network by means of OTA (over-the-air) commands. This means that any change to the configuration is recorded and the operator's SIM card database is kept up-to-date. Another advantage is in the area of logistics. Currently, network operators generally order a uniform SIM card profile from the manufacturer, which must conform to the needs of a large number of customers. With SIMagic, a "small series" can subsequently be configured, assuring a convenient and low-cost alternative to placing special orders with the card producer. Thanks to such individually tailored card profiles, operators can, for example, offer their corporate customers a special service, which increases their attractiveness on the market. |
