Features - Storage Innovations:ADIC AMASS FOR UNIX SPEEDS DATA ARCHIVINGAdvanced Digital Information Corp, a leading supplier of Intelligent Storage solutions to the open systems market, announced the availability of a new version of the company's archive software, AMASS for UNIX. With AMASS v5.3.3, the size of the supported disk cache has doubled from two terabytes to four terabytes -- enabling customers to provide higher-performance read and write access for larger data sets. AMASS for UNIX provides a cost-effective way for enterprises to create archives using removable media -- tape, optical disks or DVDs -- to allow users to store and access more data than they can support on conventional hard disk storage. When data is written to an archive or retrieved from it, AMASS provides disk-level performance by using cache to buffer any delays associated with retrieving and loading the removable media. By doubling the supported disk cache to a full four terabytes, AMASS v5.3.3 boosts the performance it offers for larger and more active archives, keeping access times to a minimum for the user. AMASS supports SCSI, Fibre Channel and Serial ATA arrays from all leading disk suppliers. "Through continual updates and expanded functionality, AMASS is keeping pace with technology advances to ensure our customers can continue to meet their long-term archiving needs," said Bill Yaman, vice president of ADIC Software. "With the expanded disk cache in version 5.3.3, we've focused on extending the primary benefits of AMASS -- giving general-purpose applications the scalability, cost, and security advantages of removable media -- to larger data sets and more active archiving systems. We're also continuing to improve device and platform support so that AMASS keeps addressing the widest range of enterprise storage requirements." With AMASS v5.3.3, new supported technologies include ADIC Scalar i2000 tape libraries, IBM LTO-2 and StorageTek 9840C tape drives, and Panasonic SW-9571 Multi-Drive DVD systems. Operating system and library control software upgrade support now includes SGI IRIX 6.5.19m and 6.5.20m, StorageTek ACSLS version 6.1.1, ADIC AML server 3.12, and ADIC Scalar Distributed Library Controller (SDLC) version 2.4. |
