Features - Storage Innovations:InoStor LAUNCHES NEW LTO ULTRIUM TAPE DRIVES AND AUTOLOADERSInoStor, a Tandberg Data Company, announced that it has expanded its line of tape-based drives and autoloaders. Available this month, the company has added two new LTO-based tape drives and three new LTO-based autoloaders. "This introduction leverages InoStor's extensive experience and long history of investment in linear technology based storage solutions. The addition of these new LTO tape drives and autoloaders creates a comprehensive line of data storage solutions for the SMB markets. We now offer a broad selection of capacities and technologies to meet the market's need for high-performing, yet affordable, data protection," said Ken Cruden, COO at InoStor. "LTO is a strong complement to our entry level line of SLR and VS DLTtape tape drives that are based on linear technology, the most reliable tape technology in the industry. These new LTO-based tape drives and autoloaders incorporate the inherent reliability, simple design and powerful performance today's corporate users depend on for business-critical data protection. InoStor sees significant opportunities for the LTO autoloaders used in conjunction with our NAS devices that feature RAIDn reliability." Tape DrivesInoStor will offer both LTO-2 and LTO-1 tape drives with up to 400GB capacity and 200GB capacity, respectively, in a compressed mode. Based on the Ultrium format of LTO technology, these enterprise-class drives provide affordable data protection to medium and large businesses. The InoStor LTO tape drives deliver best-in-class performance with back-up speeds of up to 245GB/hour in the LTO Ultrium 2 version. Advanced features include SmartVerify which concurrently verifies all data written to the tape, eliminating the need for a verify pass during back-up operations, and Dynamic Powerdown which protects both the cartridge and mechanics in the event of a power loss during normal operation. The LTO-2 is expected to have an MSRP of $7,200 and the LTO-1 model an MSRP of $4,100. AutoloadersThree new autoloaders based on LTO Ultrium technology are slated for launch in January; the InoStor 8 cartridge LTO8200 and LTO8100, both in a compact 2U full-rack form factor, and a LTO-2 version of InoStor's popular Tandberg LTO 10 cartridge, 4U half-rack autoloader. The LTO8200 autoloader delivers storage capacity of up to 3.2TB with an incredibly fast transfer rate of 244 GB/hr. The LTO8100 autoloader provides 1.6TB compressed capacity with a transfer rate of 115GB/hr. Business-critical information is protected with a powerful, automated system that installs in minutes. Both versions are in a 2U form factor for better space-utilization in data centers and include a removable magazine. A barcode reader can be added to these units. Companies with increasing data storage requirements and the need for centralized data protection will find the high-performance, reliability and enterprise level features of these automation products to be very compatible with NAS for disk to disk to tape back up and archival storage solutions. MSRP will be set at $10,360 for the LTO8200 autoloader and $7,665 for the LTO8100. The LTO-2 10-cartridge device features up to 4TB of storage capacity and a transfer rate of up to 252GB/hr. The Tandberg LTO-2 10-cartridge autoloader includes an integrated air filter for dust protection, a removable magazine for easy storage management and an optional barcode reader. A low cost per gigabyte, easy administration and support for all major backup vendors and operating systems provide businesses with an automated, effortless backup solution at an affordable price point of $12,000 MSRP.
