FUJITSU INTRODUCES FIRST 2.5-INCH SATA HARD DISK DRIVE

Fujitsu Computer Products of America Inc, one of the world's leading suppliers of hard disk drives and computer peripherals, redefined the possibilities for manufacturers in emerging notebook and enterprise storage markets by announcing the MHT-BH. The Fujitsu MHT-BH is the world's first 2.5-inch 9.5mm mobile hard disk drive (HDD) with SATA Extensions that supports Native Command Queuing.

The new Fujitsu hard disk drive will be among the world's smallest, fastest and most efficient hard disk drives available today, enabling innovation and improvements in everything from laptop and notebook computers, to other platforms and applications.

In unveiling the MHT-BH, Fujitsu becomes the world's first hard disk drive vendor to deliver the power of the integrated Serial ATA SOC in a 2.5-inch form factor. Additionally, the new Fujitsu hard disk drive features Native Command Queuing (NCQ), an important feature that intelligently and simultaneously coordinates up to 32 instructions to be queued and reordered by the hard disk controller, contributing to a significant improvement in overall hard disk drive performance.

"Fujitsu is pleased to deliver yet another industry-first," said Joel Hagberg, vice president of marketing at Fujitsu Computer Products of America Inc. "Fujitsu's hard disk drive technology enables the introduction of the native Serial ATA II interface into new notebook systems, with better performance, improved value and years of exciting product development."

The Fujitsu MHT-BH was developed with the support of Marvell Semiconductor Inc, a long-standing Fujitsu partner, whose single chip Serial ATA SOC eliminates the need for a bridge chip providing the benefits of a Serial ATA interface and a price point that rivals traditional parallel ATA products.

"Marvell is excited to join Fujitsu in this critical industry-first," said Dr. Alan Armstrong, Marvell's vice president of marketing for the Storage Business Group. "We are pleased that we could bring the performance and innovation inherent in the Marvell 88i6535 SOC to Fujitsu's long legacy of technical HDD superiority, in a manner that will serve customers and raise the bar for the entire HDD industry."
