BMC SOFTWARE INTEGRATES WITH IBM TIVOLI STORAGE MANAGER

BMC Software Inc, a leading provider of enterprise management, announced part of its SmartDBA data management solution, SQL-BackTrack, has been tested and validated to be interoperable with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager to help ensure database availability and recoverability for mutual customers. Working with IBM's Tivoli Storage Manager, the two products provide a comprehensive recovery solution that helps speed the backup and recovery of data.

As a result of its integration with Tivoli Storage Manager, SQL-BackTrack has also achieved "Ready for IBM Tivoli software" designation. The Ready for IBM Tivoli software program enhances BMC Software's ability to develop, test and certify products that integrate with IBM's Tivoli Storage Manager technology.

SQL-BackTrack provides intelligent, automated and high speed backup and recovery for Oracle, IBM DB2 Universal Database, Sybase, Microsoft SQL Server and Informix databases. IBM Tivoli Storage Manager protects an organization's data from hardware failures and other errors by storing backup and archive copies of data on offline storage. Customers using both SQL- BackTrack and Tivoli Storage Manager are afforded extended recovery benefits that include the ability to:

• Initiate and run recovery with no storage administration intervention
• Locate backup assets and mount tapes via robotic tape devices -- making backup and recovery management seamless and easy
• Execute dry-run recovery testing -- full recovery test on the real environment to assure the recovery process
