IXO AWARDED PATENTS FOR STORAGE, RETRIEVAL, COMPRESSION

The U.S. Patent and Trademark office has awarded New York City-based IXO Corp United States patents 6,601,104 and 6,604,158 entitled "System and Methods for Accelerated Data Storage and Retrieval."

The patents cover the fundamental use of lossless data compression to accelerate the process of data storage and retrieval. By losslessly compressing and decompressing data at a rate faster than the bandwidth of the target storage device, IXO technology accommodates significantly higher data storage rates. The technology is applicable to all forms of disk, memory and mass storage devices.

"We believe these patents represent a significant breakthrough in improving the performance of current data storage systems. Modern storage devices store most data in highly inefficient representations. IXO has developed technology to efficiently store this same data at rates faster than currently possible, while at the same time multiplying the effective storage capacity, and more importantly, the bandwidth of current storage solutions," said Jim Fallon, chief technologist.

In a highly related and complementary field, IXO has been awarded United States Patents 6,195,024, 6,309,424, and 6,624,761 entitled "Content Independent Data Compression Method and System."

"These patents address the transparent acceleration of the wide variety of disparate data types that occur in modern computing environments. This patented technology provides the maximum available data acceleration regardless of specific data type and offers profound improvements over other solutions," added Fallon.

Taken as a whole, IXO has created fundamental technology and supporting body of intellectual property that should provide a long-term, strategic advantage, in the data storage and computing marketplace.
