GATEWAY COMBINES FLEXIBILITY, PRICING WITH NEW AUTOLOADER

A single missing megabyte of data today costs organizations on average more than $50,000 to recreate, but a new line of flexible, value-priced Gateway DAT72 storage drives may make data loss a problem of the past.

Gateway Inc launches the new Gateway 810 external autoloader, as well as an internal Gateway DAT72 autoloader and Gateway DAT72 drive that fit into Gateway servers. Small- and medium-sized businesses, enterprises and institutions can use the 810 as a rack-mounted external autoloader for unattended, critical data back-up. For added flexibility, organizations can also utilize Gateway's new internal DAT72 standalone drive or internal autoloader, both of which provide high-capacity tape backup for businesses on a budget.

"By building out our line of backup solutions with DAT72-based products, Gateway is bringing more value and flexibility to our customers," said Scott Weinbrandt, general manager of Gateway's Enterprise Systems Division. "In fact, customers using existing DAT technology will achieve a 25 percent performance gain and nearly double their capacity by moving to DAT72 tape from existing DDS4 technology -- all at a reasonable price. And by providing both external and internal drive options, organizations can choose how they want to backup their data, whether inside existing servers or externally on a rack."

Gateway 810 External Autoloader: Rackmount Storage With ROI In Mind

Built to fit any standard rack-optimized server environment, the Gateway 810 Autoloader is only 2U in size, yet can hold either one or two complete autoloaders in a single chassis. Utilizing DAT72 tape technology, which can accommodate more than 72MB of data per compressed cartridge, the 810 can hold up to six cartridges, or up to 432GB of compressed data, per autoloader. In the two-autoloader configuration, the Gateway 810 can contain 864GB of data, and each autoloader offers an independent SCSI connection, enabling each drive to be connected to a different server.

Customers with data center or rack-based environments will particularly benefit from the Gateway 810, due to the device's dense form factor and ability to perform unattended, tape-automated backup of their rack-mount servers. The 810 also has redundancy features such as a 150W power supply and three internal fans. And as an added value to customers, Gateway automatically includes rack rails, SCSI cabling, one DAT72 tape and one cleaning cartridge as part of the package.

The Gateway 810 2U rack mount DAT72 autoloader including one six cartridge device is offered at $2,499, with the option to add a second DAT72 autoloader for $1,499. DAT72 tapes are $39 each.
