Features - Storage Innovations:TROIKA'S NETWORK STORAGE SERVICES PLATFORM GAINS TRACTIONTroika Networks, a pioneer of the Network Storage Services Platform approach to SAN-based intelligence, today announced industry support for its storage Software Development Kit (SDK). Troika's Network Storage Services Platform (NSS Platform) SDK enables developers of SAN-based applications to easily port and develop storage applications for deployment in storage networks. Troika's SDK accelerates time to market for storage software and solution vendors, providing broad support for storage applications in a heterogeneous SAN environment. Troika's SDK consists of a powerful set of application programming interfaces (APIs), libraries, tools and utilities as well as sample code that provides a rich environment for development, test and debug of network-based storage software. "We talked to a number of companies that ported their code to the Troika NSS Platform and they confirmed the power of its simple programming model and tool set," said Steve Duplessie, chief analyst at Enterprise Storage Group. "Troika's goal is to provide the most productive, easiest to use, and fastest time-to-market platform for storage application providers," said Bill Terrell, president and CEO of Troika. "To achieve this, we developed a simple yet powerful API, which provides full functionality for storage applications in a small fraction of the number of function calls required by other intelligent platforms. Our platform is based on an open Linux operating system environment, robust tool set and simple programming model," added Bill Terrell. Troika's NSS Platform has been designed to meet the demanding requirements of both end users and storage application providers. For example, Troika's architecture, powerful SDK, and tools allow application providers the fastest path to market. In addition, Troika's platform is fabric-agnostic, and can be added to any existing SANs regardless of what switches are deployed. By eliminating the need to deal with persistent Fibre Channel interoperability issues, the NSS Platform allows end users to add intelligent storage services to the SAN without disturbing their current infrastructure. "Troika has provided a straightforward API that is well suited for porting applications such as Incipient's," said Dave Jabs, Incipient's vice president of engineering. "Troika's SDK maps well with Incipient's model for network resident applications." "Troika has devised a very powerful interface combined with a simple and elegant programming model and a complete set of tools for efficient development and porting of storage-based applications," commented Yoram Novick, CEO of Topio, a leading business continuity and replication software company. "The robustness of Troika's SDK simplifies the process of porting StoreAge's volume management, snapshot, replication and mirroring applications to the Troika NSS platform," said Nelson Nahum, chief technology officer for StoreAge Networking Technologies, an innovator in enterprise SAN storage management. |
