AGERE SYSTEMS ANNOUNCES UNIVERSAL SERIAL INTERFACE PLATFORM
Agere Systems has announced a new multi-protocol platform that enables high-speed serial interfaces for storage applications. This solution allows hard disk drive and system manufacturers to reliably and cost-effectively transition from parallel interfaces to advanced serial interfaces that will dramatically increase the data throughput between disk drives and motherboards in PCs, laptops, consumer electronic devices and high-end corporate storage applications.
HP STORAGE SOLUTION EXTENDS FIBRE CHANNEL SANs VIA IP NETS
HP has introduced an Internet protocol (IP) storage solution that enables server and storage connectivity to Fibre Channel storage area networks (SANs) across an Ethernet network. The solution provides a cost-efficient entry point to IP storage by extending the benefits of existing SANs to isolated, "stranded" servers through IP networks.

Innovation Data Processing, a market leader in storage management products, recently announced a major product release, FDR/UPSTREAM/SOS 3.2.0 with new bi-directional operations. SONY DELIVERS FIRST TAPE DRIVE TO BREAK 1TB CAPACITY BARRIER
With the ability to store up to 1.3 terabytes (TB) of compressed data (500 gigabytes native) on a half-inch tape cartridge, SAIT-1 is staking its claim as the industry's highest capacity tape drive and the first available product to break the 1TB capacity barrier. The enterprise-class drive also features a sustained transfer rate of up to 78 megabytes (MB) per second (30 MB/sec native) for efficient data recording and fast data recovery.

FUJITSU RETAINS NUMBER TWO POSITION IN ENTERPRISE MARKET
Fujitsu Computer Products of America Inc (FCPA) announced recently that it grew its markets share in both the enterprise and mobile hard disk drive markets according to data released by IDC. Fujitsu achieved 23% enterprise market share in the fourth quarter -- a 3% increase from the third quarter of 2002 and a 41% increase in terms of units shipped -- continuing its presence as the number two enterprise HDD supplier in the world ahead of Maxtor and IBM/Hitachi.
