EGENERA ADDS NAS SUPPORT FOR BLADES, PROMISES MS OS SUPPORT

Egenera, one of the earliest of the blade server startups, released a
NAS-only option for its BladeFrame servers at the end of last year. It
initially worked on the project with Network Appliance, but says the work is
applicable to any network-attached storage devices, not just those from
NetApp. Egenera, which has focused on high-end blade servers designed as
replacements for monolithic enterprise Unix boxes, is also preparing to add
support for Windows Server 2003 (until recently known as Windows .NET Server
2003), which Microsoft plans to launch in April.

Data storage has become so cheap, why should anyone care about e-mail
archive management? After all, it's easy enough to buy additional disk drives for
your e-mail servers and move on to more important concerns…right? Wrong.
According to the Gartner Group, despite the fact that hardware costs will
continue to decline at about 25 percent to 35 percent per year, data storage
will eat up the majority of server-related budgets by 2004.

IMATION CELEBRATES 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF MAGNETIC TAPE TECH
Imation Corp, a worldwide leader in removable data storage media, is
commemorating the 50th anniversary of the first data storage tape introduced
commercially in 1953, and its own half-century as a manufacturer of tape
media. Imation also will chart the future of removable data storage media
and the mission to get to one-terabyte cartridges by the end of the decade.
SOLUTIONS AND SERVICES TO DRIVE StorageTek REVENUE
Hours after StorageTek pre-announced that Q4 financial results will exceed
analysts' expectations, Bobby Kocol, StorageTek chief financial officer,
reiterated the company's strategy at the Needham Growth Conference in New
York. He said that the company is well positioned to grow its business in
2003 because it has the resources, the products, the services and the
presence to address complex business issues better than its competitors.

SNAP APPLIANCE READIES UNIFIED NAS-SAN SYSTEMS FOR THIS YEAR

It's been nearly three months since Quantum announced that is was
divesting itself of its low-end Snap network-attached storage business. The
resulting new company, Snap Appliance, is now starting to talk about its
plans for the future, including a forthcoming line of combined NAS-SAN
systems due to be delivered in the second half of the year.
