- IS DATA STAGING RELATIONAL? A COMMENT
by Joseph M. Firestone, Ph.D.
- In the data warehousing process, the data staging area is composed of the
data staging server application and the data store archive (repository) of
the results of extraction, transformation and loading activity. The data
staging application server temporarily stores and transforms data extracted
from OLTP data sources and the archival repository stores cleaned,
transformed records and attributes for later loading into data marts and
data warehouses.
- SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER IN 2001
- Companies are realizing that e-business is less about a technology shift
and more about a business shift, and nowhere is this more evident than in
the supply chain.
- SPSS RELEASES NEW VERSION OF CLEMENTINE
- E-businesses are bombarded daily with millions of pieces of information
about visitors to their Web sites. Even with traditional data mining tools,
deciphering this flood of data -- and ultimately turning it into more
profitable customer relationships -- is a daunting task.
- COMPUTERS ARE FASTER THAN HUMANS, BUT NOT ALWAYS AS SMART
- The IBM work is interesting, said Dr. John O. Ledyard, a professor of
economics and social science at the California Institute of Technology, but
he is skeptical that the bot advantage will play out in "thin" markets where
there are only a few buyers or sellers, and where good deals are more a
matter of skill than speed.
