Akamai Unveils Traffic Analyzer & Reporter

Akamai Technologies, a provider of global, high performance services for the delivery of Internet content, streaming media, and applications, announced the availability of Akamai's Traffic Analyzer and Reporter, real-time and historical reporting services for quantifying Website performance. With these services, Akamai's more than 400 customers have access to advanced information that enables them to evaluate the effectiveness of their media content. By leveraging this valuable data, Akamai's customers can gain insight to Website usage and make intelligent business decisions that increase traffic and maximize revenue on their Website.

Akamai's Traffic Analyzer and Reporter allow both FreeFlow and FreeFlow Streaming customers to track and quantify their Website traffic in real time and historically. Akamai Traffic Analyzer, a real-time reporting tool, is a java-based client that provides online traffic monitoring of both a customer's Website and the entire Akamai network, which spans 45 countries. Customers can view information displaying the geographic origin of visitor traffic with 99 percent accuracy - a level that is unmatched in the industry.

Traffic Analyzer is particularly useful for customers that want to quantify traffic patterns during significant media events. Recent examples include Akamai customers who advertised their sites during the Super Bowl, and were able to monitor hits on a real-time basis. Other examples include Akamai customers who analyzed real-time traffic data during the broadcast of The Oscars, or during such streamed events as CBS SportsLine's live coverage of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. In real-time, customers can assess the success of their events and know immediately the number of viewers, concurrent streams, and from which geographic location they originate.

Computer.com, an online portal dedicated to novice computer users, recently leveraged Traffic Analyzer for its television ad campaign that aired during the Super Bowl. "During the Super Bowl, we relied on Akamai's Traffic Analyzer to monitor the success of our advertising in real time," said Jordan Olin, CTO, Computer.com. Akamai Reporter, a historical reporting tool, is a Web-based customizable service that provides historical insight and analysis into Web traffic. With Reporter, FreeFlow Streaming customers, for example, can view critical statistics to understand what part of their programming viewers watched, at what bit rates, and with what format. These critical reports include:

• Number of hits
• Minutes of content viewed
• Maximum concurrent streams
• Amount of content delivered
• Number of unique viewers

In addition, Akamai Reporter enables FreeFlow customers to generate a variety of reports and gain critical insight to Website usage. Customers are able to view the geographic origin of Web site visitors, view the popularity and growth of their Website traffic, observe traffic cycles over time, set expectations about traffic based on past trends, and plan for capacity and bandwidth changes based on peak usage statistics.
